21st February is a special day for Bangladesh and the entire Bengali speaking region. It is celebrated worldwide as International Mother Language Day.
On this day in 1952, Barkat, Salam, Rafiq, Jabbar and many other youths were martyred when the police fired on students protesting in Dhaka demanding Bengali as the state language in the then East Pakistan.
Jahurul Islam Medical College and Hospital celebrates this day to remember these martyrs of language movement and to respect all the mother tongues of the world.
